"Did you see the sunset yesterday?!" He beamed, standing somewhere behind me. I could almost hear his stupid grin.
God, why was he always so happy?!

I didn't look back to check; my eyes were trained on the empty silver cage sitting on the table before me.
"It reminded me of that one time--" He continued, completely unfazed by my lack of response. Couldn't he tell I wasn't listening? My attention was divided between his stupid nonsense and my own thoughts.
